Description

Guyanese bauxite, the primary source of aluminum, is a mineral that typically consists of gibbsite Al(OH)3, boehmite y-AlO(OH), and diaspore a-AlO(OH), as well as iron ores and clays.

Guyanese bauxite, from the gibbsite mineral, undergoes a calcination process, where it is heated in rotary kilns at temperatures above 1800 degrees Celsius to increase its alumina content and refractoriness, as well as its thermal stability and mechanical strength. Hereafter the resulting grey mineral is crushed and sieved into different grain sizes.

Guyanese calcined bauxite or refractory bauxite is also called anti-skid bauxite or high friction surface bauxite in road surfacing applications.

Specifications, Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS)

At Plomp Mineral Services, we focus on supplying customized Guyanese bauxite in various sizes to the road surfacing and anti-skid flooring industries, with the following general specification:

– Chemical:  Al2O3 minimum 88 %  |  SiO2 maximum 6 % |  Fe2O3 typical 1 %

– Various sizes:  0 – 1 mm  |  1 – 3 mm  |  3 – 5 mm

– Specific density:  3.15 kg/dm3

– Polish Stone Value (PSV):  72    |   Aggregate Abrasion Value (AVV):  1.9

Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) are available upon request.

Applications and markets

Generally bauxite is classified according to its intended commercial application, which includes metallurgical, abrasive, cement, chemical, and refractory industries.

Guyanese calcined bauxite is used in the refractory industry, road surfacing, and anti-skid flooring industries.

The refractory industry is the largest consumer of calcined bauxite due to its resistance to corrosion and heat. This mineral is also known as RASC (Refractory Aggregate Super Calcined) Bauxite for this application.

In the road surfacing and anti-skid flooring industries, it is used as an aggregate because of its high mechanical strength, hardness, toughness, and very high polish stone values (PSV).

Reach, HS Code and Supply

As a naturally occurring substance and not chemically modified, calcined bauxite is therefore exempt from REACH registration. The international Harmonized System Code or HS Code of is 2606.00, the European GN code is 2606.0000.

We supply our Guyanese RASC bauxite in paper bags and big bags and can deliver by truck and container from our stocks. Besides Guyanese calcined bauxite, we also offer Chinese Calcined Bauxite.
