Bauxite is an aluminium ore and is the main source of aluminium. Specifically the ore usually consist of the minerals gibbsite Al(OH)3, boehmite y-AlO(OH), and diaspore a-AlO(OH), in a mixture with iron ores and clays.
Chinese calcined bauxite production from the diaspore mineral takes place in rotary kilns at temperatures above 1800 degrees Celsius in China. As a result of this calcination process, not only the alumina content and refractoriness increase, but also the thermal stability and mechanical strength. Subsequently crushing and sieving plants process and classify the grey to yellow colored mineral into different grain sizes.
Chinese calcined (refractory) bauxite is also called anti-skid bauxite or high friction surface bauxite in road surfacing applications.
Bauxite is classified into metallurgical, abrasive, cement, chemical, and refractory categories based on its intended commercial use.
Generally calcined bauxite is used in the refractory industry, road surfacing, and anti-skid flooring industries. Therefore it is also called refractory bauxite. The refractory industry is the largest consumer of Chinese Calcined Bauxite due to its resistance to heat and corrosion. In the road surfacing and anti-skid flooring industries, it is used as an aggregate because of its high mechanical strength, hardness, toughness, and polish stone values (PSV).
At Plomp Mineral Services, we supply our Chinese calcined bauxite in various sizes to the refractory, road surfacing and anti-skid flooring industries. Basically the general specification is as follows:
– Chemical: Al2O3 typical 86 % | SiO2 typical 6 % | Fe2O3 typical 1.5 %
– Various sizings: 0 – 75 micron | 0 – 1 mm | 1 – 3 mm | 3 – 5 mm | as per customer’s demand
– Specific density: typical 3.0 kg/dm3
Technical Data Sheet (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) are available upon request.
As a naturally occurring substance and not chemically modified, calcined bauxite is therefore exempt from REACH registration. The international Harmonized System Code or HS Code of is 2606.00, the European GN code is 2606.0000.
We supply our Chinese bauxite in paper bags and big bags and deliver by truck and container from our stocks. Besides Chinese, we also offer Guyanese Calcined Bauxite.
