Metallurgical Grade Chromite



Chromite (FeCr2O4) is a mineral composed of chromium, iron and oxygen with a high specific density. The colour of chromite is dark gray to black with a slightly metallic look.
Metallurgical Grade Chromite grains are sub-angular and can be sized in lumpy (10 – 150 mm), chips (0 – 10 mm) and concentrates (0 – 1 mm).


Applications and markets

Metallurgical Grade Chromite is mainly used as a base material for ferro chrome production for the steel industry, but also be used as pigment in the container glass industry.



At Plomp Mineral Services, we supply LG6 Metallurgical Grade Chromite, origination the Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine in South Africa, with the following general specification:

    • Chemical: Cr2O3  ranging from 40 to 45 %  |  SiO2 ranging from  3 % to 6 %
    • Physical sizing: 0 – 1 mm concentrate

Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) will be sent on request.
Minerals like chromite don’t have to be registered under REACH.



We offer our Metallurgical Grade in bulk and can deliver by truck, container and ship from our stocks. Besides Metallurgical Grade Chromite we also supply, Foundry Grade Chromite Sand and Metallurgical Grade Chromite.
