About This Project

Foundry Grade Chromite Sand

Chromite (FeCr2O4) is a mineral composed of chromium, iron and oxygen with a high specific density. The colour of Chromite sand is dark gray to black with a slightly metallic look.
Foundry Grade Chromite grains are sub-angular and are specially sized between 100 and 600 micron.

Applications and markets

Foundry Grade Chromite Sands are not only used as casting sands in cores and moulds in the foundry industry, but also as base material in the refractory industry and in sliding gate mixes or plugging sands in ladles in the steel industry.

At Plomp Mineral Services, we supply LG6 Foundry Grade Chromite Sand, origination the Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine in South Africa, which is world famous for its superior quality with the following general specification:

    • Various sizes: AFS 45 – 55 and AFS 40 – 50, with ultra-low fines and no dust
    • Close to neutral pH values and low acid demand values
    • High refractoriness and good thermal conductivity
