Steelshot & Steelgrit

Steelshots and Steelgrits are particles made out of steel that have a high specific density, a grey colour and vary in sizes between 50 and 1000 micron.
Steelshots are produced during an atomization process and have a round shape.
Steelgrits are manufactured by crushing steelshots and have an angular shape.

Applications and markets

Steelshot and steelgrit are the most widely used blasting materials for cleaning, stripping and improving metal surfaces. Different types of steelshot or steelgrit with different chemistries, sizes and hardnesses lead to very different surface finishes. The spherical shape of steelshot generally produces a clean and smooth surface.
The use of smaller steelshots result in a smoother surface. Larger shots clean more aggressively but give a rougher surface. Steelgrit cleans many types of surface contaminants quickly. The angular shape produces an etched surface, which is preferred for the adhesion of paints and coatings.

At Plomp Mineral Services, we supply the complete size range of steelshots and steelgrits with the following general specification:

    • ranging in size from S70 to S780 and from G10-G120,
    • with various chemistries
    • with various hardnesses.

Technical Data Sheets (TDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) will be sent on request.
Minerals like Silica do not have to be registered under REACH.

We supply our steelshots and steelgrits in paper bags and big bags and can deliver by truck and container from our stocks.
